Debunking Stereotypes

Debunking Stereotypes

Let's talk about why more women don't play golf.

Stereotypes:
1. Golf is a men's sport
2. Women don't know how to play
3. Golf is boring

These are all things I thought before picking up an interest in the sport myself, but to quickly address these three stereotypes: no it's not, we can learn, and no it's not.

1. The rise in female golfers is on the rise! Recent stats show women are growing the game and are expected to continue making up a larger part of the golf community.  It may seem like an extremely male-dominated sport and it can certainly be intimidating at first, but we're here to help shift that for the future. Sure it's rare to see more than a couple of women (if any) on the course, but it is becoming more common, as it should!

2. Women can play golf just as men do. It may take some time to learn (golf is HARD), but if you're interested, get out there! I strongly recommend taking a lesson first, which will help alleviate some of the uncertainty and get you situated with the basics. Once you can swing a club, go to the driving range to test it out, practice, and get more comfortable with your clubs. Then give it a go on the course! I've seen recent apps that help beginner golfers get started, which are great resources to check out. One method is to start closer to the pin and only move back when you're able to make par from that certain distance, which feels like a great way to learn. I promise once you get out there, you'll realize most people aren't actually as good as you thought they'd be and you'll fit right in if you keep working on your game! If you truly are new and want to get more involved, follow along as we'll be releasing more posts about things you should know as a beginner golfer.

3. Lastly, I totally used to side with the 'golf is boring' crowd. Then I started playing, and now I can't even fall asleep to it if it's on TV which is a real tell-tale sign for me. Just give it a chance and I think your mindset will change too. I think one of the main reasons I actually like to watch now is because I understand how incredibly hard it is and how incredibly good professionals are. It's pretty cool.

I hope this helps you find more confidence in wanting to start your golfing journey especially if it already interests you! It's time to keep debunking the stereotypes and continue growing the game of golf for women.
